The heavy-duty truck is a complex, pneumatic-tired vehicle requiring its own engineering tools, analysis programs, parameter-measurement methods, and vehicle-testing  procedures.  With increasing frequency, heavy-duty truck engineers are called upon to answer questions with respect to highway safety, pavement loadings, and driver/vehicle compatibility.

The Heavy Duty-Truck Engineering program includes a tour of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute's vehicle laboratory and a computer simulation session introducing students to TruckSim, a comprehensive multi-body simulation-model by Mechanical Simulation Corporation.
